Giving Up

Sometimes, when I'm taking my thirty-minute Chemistry quiz online, I would love to
drop everything and give up.

Good thing they give you that option.....

How uplifting.

It's beginning to feel a lot like....

CHRISTmas!!

Oh, how I have missed my dear friends.

My precious siblings :)

I have SO much to be thankful for!

Aaaaand, I bought Christmas gifts for all of my lovely friends and TWU besties. I didn't forget anyone! Except James. He's hard to shop for. I thought, "what's a good gift that everyone will like?" Hmmmm...

I love CHRISTmas time!

I Think It's Time I Eat Some More..

Because I haven't eaten enough already.

Before

After

Before

After

I mean seriously I can only eat so much.. Bring on the turkey!

Weird things my family does for thanksgiving:

  1.  My mom makes two of everything. One for me, and one for everyone else. I guess you could say I'm kind of a picky eater. Example, I hate coconut so she makes two fruit salads; one with and one without. I'm allergic to pecans, but I would still like to enjoy some candied yams!!
  2.  We eat at one in the afternoon. Why? I have no clue. My family likes to wake up and eat I guess. It's funny watching my mother cook in the middle of the night.
  3.  My dad makes turkey salad with all the leftover turkey. We eat that stuff for weeks after thanksgiving! Seriously, no one makes turkey salad as well as my pops.

"If you've never felt your ribs pushing against your skin. If you know when you're next going to eat. If you slept under a roof last night. If you know how to use a computer. If you can read these words. If you know someone you can share this with. You have a lot to be thankful for."

We're coming home, again.

The Reason My Heart Hasn't Stopped.

I struggle with anxiety. It always seems to strike at the most random times. For example, most people may get anxious over schoolwork, grades, or finances. Not I.
I am a special case. I never know when it will strike, but when It does, I break down. I pretend I'm seven and I don't have any responsibilities. It's sad. But I have found hope that was there all along.

My devotional talks about anxiety in two separate cases in the bible:

First, with David facing Goliath fearlessly, though Saul told him he should be scared. David put all his faith in God as he was so used to... We all know how the story ends.
Another case that I never thought about before was Jesus walking on the water..

"Peter, suddenly bold, said, "Master, if it's really you, call me to come to you on the water." He said, "Come ahead." Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, "Master, save me!"
Jesus didn't hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand. Then he said, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" - Matthew 14:28-31 (The Message)

SO powerful to me.
1. Peter is always the disciple to speak up. He knows his stuff. I believe he thinks he's being clever when he asks Jesus to call to him to come. The disciples in the boat thought he was a ghost. "ask and you shall receive."
2. Jesus says "come"! Literally and metaphorically saving our lives. I forget, Jesus is always beckoning we come. (Peter wasn't simply getting lucky, as I previously thought)
3. The moment Peter takes his eyes off Jesus, he begins to sink into the waves. Not enough trust? I'm thinking this is my biggest problem. Keep your eyes on Jesus!
4. When Peter cries out for help, Jesus doesn't hesitate. Literally and metaphorically. How did we get so lucky?

"Make the conscious choice to move the attention of your anxious heart away from the waves and direct it to the One who walks on them." - Henri Nouwen

Best quiet time ever.

New Moon..

..WAS AMAZING!
I never saw the first movie, so I was a bit confused about who was who..
I liked that the movie went pretty well with the book. I just wish Robert Pattinson wasn't so weird and Bella's character was... a better actress.

Nonetheless, JACOB BLACK (and his werewolf friends) STOLE THE SHOW.

He is so hot.
The more shirtless he is, the better.

We went a little overboard with the pictures...

TEAM JACOB :P

Music Post

Some new(ish) music I have been into:

Lady Gaga - Bad Romance
I think everything she does is amazing.

John Mayer - Battle Studies
Not only is John Mayer a stud, this album is UHHHMAZING! I can't stop listening to it... John can sing to me anytime :)

Cash Cash - Take it to the Floor
They are a pop boy band. Their music makes me want to jam awkwardly. Enough said.

Glee - The Music, Vol. 2
Does this need an explanation? I think not.

New Moon Soundtrack
Whether you are a fan of twilight or not, the music is NIFTY!
Check out "Uprising" by Muse. You will thank me later.

Jason Mraz - A Beautiful Mess: Live on Earth
I watched him live on ustream last week. I felt like he was singing right to me. All the songs are acoustic.
Go buy the album; you will be pleased with yourself.

What music have you been into lately?

Just In Case You Were Wondering...

1. JASON MRAZ'S NEW ALBUM CAME OUT.
He is my hero. Seriously. I am so tempted to buy it on itunes. Oh wait, I already did!!

2. the diet is going great (except for all that food I eat).

Here is allison enjoying ramen on one of our many "ramen" nights.

Here is me using a graphing calculator to count something at the grocery store. Good for me.

3. I have been keeping up with my quiet times. I do them daily. Here's proof:

Everyday I put the main lesson a sticky note and throw it up there. Everyone thinks I'm crazy. I would write about them daily in the blog, but they're kinda lame.

Just in case you were wondering....

Ten Honest Things

Some honest things you didn't (want to) know:

1. I love memorizing useless information then repeating it at some other time and sounding impressive. I do it often.

2. I keep some numbers in my phone JUST so I know not to answer when they call or so I know not to respond to their text. If I don't have the number, usually, I just answer anyway and seem flaky for not having the number even though they gave it to me five or six times in the past.... just save the number and ignore it :)

3. I get crushes on random people all the time. Its called obsession and I need to learn to keep it under control.

4. I have an obsession with my itunes. Let me clarify: I have an obsession with playlists! Smart playlists are my most favorite invention ever!

  • I have some playlists organized by Genre. Every song genre on my itunes has to be perfect or i become displeased.
  • I rate all my songs, and keep the ones that are unrated on a special list of unrated songs.
  • I do the same for play count. and sometimes, when I like a song a lot, I'll trick my itunes into thinking I've played a song a bunch of times.

BTW I love all the songs on my itunes, unless its on shuffle. In which case, I like maybe every fifteen songs or so.

5. I hate getting dressed up and not seeing anyone important. HUGE bummer.

6. I never know when it is, but the moment always comes when I'm doing work; I've made up my mind that I'm not doing anything productive for the rest of the day.....

7. Ice-breakers make me nervous! I mean, I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem...

8. When I make a poor decision, the first thought that pops into my head will always be, "this is going to make a funny story later".

9. This is pretty awful; When someone is telling me a story, all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but more directly involves me.

10. I can't swim. This is mainly because I'm allergic to chlorine.

I agree; I am SO interesting :)

I am a Gleek.

My favorite show of all time comes on tonite after two long weeks of inturruption because of the stupid World Series. (Glee > World Series)

"The one-hour series follows an optimistic high school teacher as he tries to transform the school's Glee Club and inspire a group of ragtag performers to make it to the biggest competition of them all: Nationals. McKinley High School's Glee Club used to be at the top of the show choir world, but years later, a series of scandals have turned it into a haven for misfits and social outcasts. Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) has offered to take on the Herculean task of restoring the Glee Club to its former glory."

Oh, how I have missed thee.
It hasn't been on for a couple of weeks. You could say that my friends an I have been going crazy.
We are officially "gleeks", which means we like glee a lot.

Pull up to your TV tonite aroundish 8 and watch! Party in my room and everyone is invited :)

Stay tuned; Next blogpost will be ten honest things about me ♥

Panic Attack!

Today, I lost my ring. But not any ring. My most favorite ring that I wear everyday.

Yup there it is. I got it for Christmas three years ago. It means a lot to me because I've always really liked stars and I was on the Stars dance team......

I just woke up and went through my normal routine. Washed my face, noticed there was no ring on my left ring finger :(
I almost had an aneurism.
I spent maybe twenty minutes looking for it.

BUT I FOUND IT!!!
(this story has a happy ending)

However, I was late to go work out this morning :(
So i thought, maybe I could work out for the same amount and just be late to Chemistry...
Then I remembered I had a test today in Chemistry.
(Which I most definitely failed btw; Next time - study.)

Wow, worthless story time over....

What means SO much to you, that if you lost it, your world would end?

Update from 5A2

I haven't been updating lately :(
Top Reasons why Marissa has not updated her blog:

1. I got in a fight with a close friend.

Her names Mary. I overreacted. We weren't even really in a fight, I just thought we were. BUT that didn't stop me from thinking my world was ending. How dumb of me.

2. MASTERINGCHEMISTRY.COM

Masteringchemistry.com is a torture device web program invented by satan someone who decided "who needs to do Chemistry on paper when you can do it online". Its actually pretty nifty.
You can see your assignments and right when they're due.

Homework scores

And, of course, my ever so lovely quiz grades (yes, these are my real grades)

Basically, Mastering Chemistry has been taking over my life. I have more examples of why.
Each assignment has oh, I don't know, THIRTY-SIX or so pages.

Of stuff like this:

By the way, I have a test Tuesday over four Chapters. Wish me luck!

3. I have been longingly gazing out of my window.

This is the view from my window. Its not too great; I am on the fifth floor of a tower so my view isn't the best. I'm from Houston so It'll do! I am not used to such a change in seasons, falling leaves, and things of the like. I wish I had an east facing room so I could look out on the golf course every morning... A girl can dream, can't she?

4. Splendor by Anna Godbersen

Allison let me borrow this book by way of her friend Lauren. How happy am I that she suggested I read it. I do somewhat regret reading this book without reading the ones that come before it, but that doesn't take away from the amazingness of this one.
"In the dramatic conclusion to the bestselling Luxe series, New York's most dazzling socialites chase dreams, cling to promises, and tempt fate. As society watches what will become of the city's oldest families and newest fortunes, on question remains: Will its stars fade away or will they shine even brighter?"

5. I have been strictly following my diet. Sort of.
This is time consuming.

What has been keeping you busy lately?

Quesadilla Time!

Top Reasons We made Quesadillas:

1.  We happened to have the ingredients just lying around.

2. Further advance our knowledge of cooking utensils, cooking paraphernalia, and heating devices (stoves)

3. Increase happiness!

Don't have a kitchen stove handy? Check out Allison's blog post with specific instructions on how to make quesadillas in the microwave !

In other news,
We found some sketchy soap in the kitchen. Keep in mind the kitchen is open for use by everyone. There are pots and pans in there that everyone can use. AND where there are pots and pans, there's soap.

This soap to be specific. Read the very top line; Who else thinks its super sketchy that Texas Woman's uses soap from "Texas Correctional Industries" We are officially on the same level as the inmates up the road at Darrington. Lovely :)

My Parents Love Me

..... A little.

They bought me a crazy amount of food because they don't want me to lose weight. How corrupt of them... jk, it was a coincidence; I gave my mom a list of things to get from the store and one item on the list was "snacks". this is what she came back with:

a twenty four pack of assorted pudding, eight fruit cups, ten capri-suns, yogurt.. (and don't forget the mexican cheese!)

two twelve packs of crackers, eight mini mac-and-cheeses, strawberry fruit snacks, A TWENTY-FOUR PACK OF POPCORN, granola bars, goldfish crackers

(I like to call this the soup drawer) three types of ramen, vienna sausages, three containers of soup-to-go, five dinty moore ready-to-eat meals, three chef boyardee pasta things...

Whoop! I'm out of breath! Wish me luck on my diet!
