Marissa on a Diet.

I have recently come to be known as "the girl that will eat whatever you don't eat". Really not as fun as it seems. But I do eat kind of a lot; Its a problem.

This could be me.

Sooooooooo I am putting myself on a DIET!
Yes that's right, a diet.

Not just any old diet, but calorie restriction. This basically means that I starve myself eat less to lose weight. Extra healthy.
No seriously, there are some pretty good health benefits to calorie restriction (CR):
  • You live longer
  • You have a better memory (which I need)
  • You lose weight
  • You get along with people better (I wish)
  • You put your strength in will to the test!
ANDDDDD supposedly CR is extra easy to maintain. Its basically eating half of whatever I eat now, minus candy and junk food - ad absurdum.

I did my homework on this one I promise.

Calorie Restriciton Calculator - Calculates how many calories I am supposed to be eating every day from now on. According to this site, my CR twin weighs 127 lbs. She's a little on the thin side. Hopefully I will become her.

In addition to dieting, I will continue to work out in the mornings, only longer and more intense!(in theory)

    Wish me luck!

    TGIF sorta.

UM funniest thing I've ever read. The only thing that could make it funnier would be less swearing. Its not hard to believe that Voldy would be kind of upset about being defeated by a baby, but profanity is kind of unattractive.

One thing I hate: verses about the wrath of God. Police God. Mean parent God.
That's what my devotional topic was today. I guess back in the day one had to be completely pure and Holy to enter into a temple of God. "Tell Aaron and his sons to treat Holy offerings that the Isrealites consecrate to me with reverence so they won't desecrate my Holy name. I am God" (Leviticus 32:1-2) Then it gets into the messiness of keeping Kosher.
This day was all about reactions. My reaction: really repelled me from God. I don't respond well the scripture like this, my thinking was basically, "wow, sucks for them that they didn't have an AMAZING savior to take on their burdens". How lucky am I?
This is the last one in leviticus :)

Something else I kind of hate:
When a friend has something on their mind and they don't let me know what's up. I think it's important to let your friends know how you're feeling. It seems like people can't be honest with me, and thats not ok. I would rather hear what's wrong from that person instead of dealing with awkward tension. I am the kind of person where, when something is wrong, I let people know how I'm feeling right away. I am not used to people "crowd pleasing" and trying to make other people happy at the expense of their own happiness. No matter what, you know if you're important to me and your feelings do actually make a difference to me.
AND if I am doing something that is offensive or not born of love, I would like to know, before I had the chance to go deeper into sin. Believe it or not, my whole goal in life is to be more like Christ, and I need your help.

Things to Do Instead of Killing Yourself

I thought this was funny. Not that I'm thinking of killing myself or anything.. I mean I just have like eight pages of chemistry, ten pages of History, and Math homework...
Things to Do Instead of Killing Yourself:
    1. Drive in one direction until you reach the ocean.
    2. Say hello to everyone you pass during the day.
    3. Frown until your mouth muscles hurt (then see how much easier it is to smile.)
    4. Create your own alphabet.
    5. Start a scrapbook.
    6. Make something you invented or invent something you can make.
    7. Figure out if has no solution for non zero integers x, y, and z if n is an integer greater than two.
    8. Make a BLT.
    9. Work a crossword puzzle.
    10. Count backwards from 10 billion by 13s.
    11. Visit a yard sale.
    12. Put on some really comfortable shoes. Walk somewhere in them.
    13. Make something nice for someone and give it to them.
    14. Go see a movie.
    15. Read The Lost Soul Companion.
    16. Make your own list of things to do instead of killing yourself (and then do them.)
    17. Organize your own mock funeral, invite family and friends, encourage them to eulogize you. (depressing)
    18. Let someone proofread your suicide note.
    19. Build a fort.
    20. Meditate.
    21. Shampoo your hair. Repeat if desired.
    22. Create an elaborate hoax. (Try not to get arrested.)
    23. Get arrested.
    24. Sneak into a church. Enjoy the sunlight and quiet.
    25. Write me a letter. (Be assured of a hopeful reply.)
    26. Volunteer somewhere.
    27. Doodle.
    28. Enter a contest.
    29. Write a poem.
    30. Just breathe.
    31. Take a dance class.
    32. Finish something you started.
    33. Drink a cup of tea with sugar and milk if that's how you like it.
    34. Jump up and down on a big trampoline.
    35. Pray.
    36. Eat a tomato.
    37. Pet a kitten.
    38. Answer your telephone the next time it rings. (I know you haven't been...)
    39. Ask a stranger for some good advice.
    40. Paint a mural.
    41. Start a garden.
    42. Do the dishes. (It's OK if you've let them pile up. Wash a couple of them at least.)
    43. Visit lostsoulcompanion.com.
    44. Rescue an animal.
    45. Take your loose change to the bank.
    46. Play some beautiful music.
    47. Ask an old person to tell you a story. ( My personal favorite)
    48. Make yourself breakfast in bed.
    49. Eat cookies.
    50. Stare at clouds.
    51. Visit the maternity ward.
    52. Send flowers anonymously.
    53. Make a long to-do list. Do everything on it.
    54. Set a world record.
    55. Open the curtains.
This list could double as a list of things to do before I die.

This is a conversation Bonnie and I had about rocks.

The devotional was a little extreme this morning. How crazy is the old testament? There's a reason it's called the 'old' testament.. they don't play around. Go read Leviticus 16:20-22. It talks about Aaron (a priest) transferring his sin into a goat and letting it go. UM what? I thought it goes - kill the perfect animal; not - let the imperfect animal live with all your sin in it.

If that wasn't weird enough the text actually suggests I get a stuffed animal and try transferring my sin into it. Hi, I happen to think that's a little strange. "Don't feel sorry for the animal, God didn't give it the capacity to take on hurt or guilt from your sin". Long story (really short), I didn't learn anything from today's reading.
I'm ready for the new testament now, please and thank you.

    Seven Ate Nine...

Hahaha. This is the funniest thing you ever seen; Don't deny it. Why am I not clever enough to think of things like this first.

Guess what is cute. My devotional skips every seventh day. So it says "On this seventh day, review and reflect on all that you have read this week. Take time to revel in the ways you have encountered God in the lsat six days." It says that every seven days. The text actually says 'revel' which is one of most favoritest words ever. How cute. Devotional - 1, Marissa - 0

I am going to go ahead and do number eight anyways. Title: "The Necessity of Sacrifice". It talks about how complex it was in Jesus days to make sacrifices to atone for sin. How lucky are we lucky that we don't have to worry about that. I think that is part of the reason we sin so much. We have his Son to atone for our sins instead of having to walk up the side of a mountain, kill a goat, and all that madness. None of us truly understand the severity of our sin. The text asks that we think about this for at least five minutes and that made me kind of uncomfortable. How lucky am I :)

So I hate chemistry. I die now. It is soooo difficult :( I have 28 pages of chemistry due in two weeks. The work isn't even that hard. its just so much. and so today in class my professor, Mrs. Maguire, was talking about some game that represented gasses.. ok long story short no one in the class had heard about the game and she says "It's the only computer game I've ever been good at besides farmville".. UM why is Maguire my new favorite teacher. The image of Maguire sitting at home on facebook all afternoon playing farmville makes my day :)

I have a new obsession, and that is the song "Sweet Caroline" :)
"Sweet Caroline, good times never seemed so good; I've been inclined to believe they never would"

Home is Where the Heart is. Sometimes.

I love me some bonnie tori and natalie!

We like her, and we like her toooooo

    Ohhhhhh how I misss you!
    bonnet! love love love ♥

It's memories like these that makes life worth living :)

This morning, my quiet time was worthless. I don't even remember what it was about, shows how much I am paying attention. Oh, I remember now, it was about what God looks like to me. So in other words, if God just appeared to me, what would He look like and what would He say? WELLLL, I like to think of God as a huge face like bigger than I can comprehend... a bearded face. And I would hope He would say "Well done good and faithful servant" but I doubt it. He would probably say something more like "Quit with the jealousy already" lol.
I don't know if that was the original intention of the the people who wrote the devotional, but that's how I take it. It's helpful because God doesn't really have a face, It's yours and mine and everyone else's because we are all created in His image. Deep.

    Sunday and Sunday

It is raining, thundering, and lighteninging (is that a word). Guess who is not so happy at the moment... I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count. Hmmm new subject.

Oh, you wanna hear about the songs I'm obsessed with? I thought so!

Somebody to Love - Glee Cast
    LaLaLaLa - LMFAO
    Idioteque - Radiohead
    Fireflies - Owl City
Beware of the Boys - Punjabi MC
Life Light Up - Christy Nockels

    Young - Hollywood Undead
    Alright - Darius Rucker
Free to be Me - Francesca Battistelli

City on Our Knees - tobyMac
    The Mating Game - Bitter:Sweet
    Ego - Beyonce

Red Light - David Nail (saved the best for last)

I would not be terribly angry if you went out and purchased these songs ASAP. I have an obsession... meaning I cannot stop listening to them!! I am going to need them for the long ride back to the D.
Oh Denton, how I despise thee.
But at least I have all this music to get me through the ride home.
btw, the ride home took eight hours. Don't ask me why. I will cry if it continues to take that long. I am not a happy camper. The ride back took about seven. Excuse me, what is going on.

I had an interesting quiet time just now. I didn't do yesterdays because I left my book in Bonnie's car so I did both today.
Today's was called "The Bread God Has Given". It starts out saying about how the Isrealites were complaining that they didn't have enough bread. Do you ever ever complain? Of course you do. I do, every minute of everyday almost. But God filled their needs.
It asked me to think about all the things I complain about and that is rough. I complain about everything. Most of the time, the response I get is not the one I was looking for at allllllll. It taught me that God's "enoughness" should fill me entirely and correspond with every aspect of my life. I learned that God is enough and complaining isn't cute.

    I Love Fighting :)

Lyoto Machida remains light heavyweight champion ♥
I knew he could do ittttt! He looked shaky pretty much the whole match but he pulled it out in the end. I'm pretty sure he lost the first round but he sorta came back for the second and freaking dominatedd in the end. Throughout the entire match, Shogun continued to throw these crazy kicks that started to hurt my sides lol. I actually think the fight could've gone either way, but it doesn't matter what i think. Machida keeps the belt.. for now. Ahhhh I love a good fight. wait is that weird?

Machida on the right; Shogun on the left

I did other things besides watch the fight I promise. I hung out with the love of my lifes namely Bonnet, Natalie, Tori, Amanda, Megan (birthday girl), and of course MANDIE GRUNDMEYER. She thinks I'm crazy and all I care about is money... NOT TRUE. But I did gets paid today :) I don't realize what I'm missing out on until I'm thrown back into the mix.
    Church tomorrow ♥

    just click to follow me..
you know you want tooooo :)

    Memories are Freshhhh ♥

"'Round my hometown, memories are fresh"-Adele

That song always gets me when I go home. Love itttttt. Last night was one of the best in a while. I was so so SO happy to see the loves of my life.

Its been so long, I almost forgot what they looked like! Today is gunna be legit I'm so excited.

Big fight toniteeee. UFC - 104: Shogun Vs. Machida. I've got my money on Machida, and here's why: He knocked out Rashad Evans in the title fight over the summer. And Shogun doesn't have the moves to counter Machida. He's a martial arts specialist. Thats a pretty big deal. I guess we'll see how the match plays out tonite :)

I keep remembering nothing is ever perfect, and my mom hit me with some heavy news this morning. My brother is going crazy. She can't control him whatsoever; he's failing class, skipping school, and there could possibly be something worse happening.... It is really worrying her and I don't think she deserves this. She works a rough job everyday and then has to come home and deal with his mess. All she does is give, and she needs your prayers now to help her through this time.. I hate seeing her like this.

    Friday, October 23, 2009

    Oh you know, its Friday..

Soooo I am going home in like three hours! Wish It could be sooner :( I miss everyone at home and I desperately want to go to a Cinco Ranch fb game, never thought I'd miss it this much.

    Today has been shockingly average.
The only class I have on Friday is ChemLab, which is a joke. The TA never speaks.. I'm not even sure she can speak. She has four emotions: extreme anger, disgust, boredom, and mild amusement.
My Professor is a terrorist. He speaks like two words of english maybe. Today he made a joke about how chemistry isn't real life... umm what? He says "its not like when people go missing... Everything has to be accounted for". Excuse me? I think he might have some experience with the logistics of when people go missing. and he makes at least two bomb jokes per class. If he makes one more joke about how to build a bomb, how dangerous bombs are, or what goes in a bomb, I might cry. The class is a joke.
I got a new devotional! Going to church here once a week is simply not cutting it. I felt the need to go deeper but I didn't necessarily know how so i got a devotional! I've been wanting to read the message so I figured the message quiet times devotional thing would be appropriate. I am on my third one and I feel really good about it.
Today's was about forgiveness and how good it feels to be forgiven. This was pretty neat, and they could've just stopped there; but THEN it talks about how good it feels to forgive also. I forget sometimes.

And its only 10 in the morning :)

    Hello from 5A2!

Hello world! My names Marissa. I am a nursing student at TWU; this basically means that i have NO free time. jk, I have lots. I don't do anything fun ever. unless you consider volunteering and studying "fun". In that case, I have lots.

You must be wondering who those neat people in the picture are. They're my posse! The one on the far left is Allison. She forced me to make this blog. She lives two doors down from me and her room has had some problems. I help her with chemistry.
The one next to me on the left is Kailin! She might be the smartest person I know. She speaks spanish fluently because she lived in Costa Rica for a year! If that weren't cool enough, she studied the bible there for a year! Baller status. Extreme jealousy from me.
The one on the far right is MARYYYY. She's like my bestie. I boss her around all day and she loves ittt. I loves her to death even though I don't show it... ever. We are opposites and I think thats why we get along so well.

This is bonnet! jk her name is Bonnie. I love her and miss her very muchhhhh! She lives in Katy which is where I'm from. Ain't she pretty? We've had our share of hard times but she's always there for me and I'm always there for her! We have all sorts of inside jokes that I can't remember at the moment. She is the light that keeps me going at the moment. ok this is starting to sound creepy... that is devotion :)

these are some nifty pictures of my dorm room. my roomie basically decorated the whole thing then left me, alone. So in case you missed that, I don't have a roommate. She moved out so now i have the place to myself. This has made me realize that I would make someone an aweful roommate. I will not go into detail.
That's all for todayyyy. I will def use this blog to post about my quiet times and GLEE!! Get excited.
